Tunisian Simple Pot Holder

For quite some time I wanted to learn something new. I get bored quickly and this is probably why I always have 3 or 4 projects going at the same time. I just can’t stick to one thing for long enough to complete it in one go. So, I decided to learn Tunisian Crochet.

To make it easier for myself and quickly finish what I started I decided to try making my own pot holder. It took me one afternoon to complete. Very simple and with right kind of cotton the results can be pretty amazing. For this project I used Rico Creative Cotton Print and wooden Tunisian crochet hook size 5.

I started with foundation chain of 32. Then I followed Tunisian simple stitch until my pot holder was in a more or less of a shape of square. I finished it off with my favourite crab stitch around the edge and added a little loop to hang it in my kitchen.

I must say that using Tunisian crochet gave my pot holder really nice thick texture. It looks sturdy enough to serve good couple of years. And I like the colour effect of Rico Creative so much that I think I will make another pot holder in green. And then maybe coasters for my tea mugs 🙂

For this project I used only one ball of yarn (and actually had a bit leftover). Tunisian crochet is a bit awkward to hold at first but once you get used to it you will be surprised how quickly you are making a progress.

Now, let’s crochet another pot holder!
